Membership Stickers
The new 2007 stickers are available. Please note the rates have changed. The annual rate is $25 per car. A monthly rate is now also available at $15 per car. For the monthly rate you will be given a mirror tag (no sticker) which will display its expiration date and the license plate number of your car. The annual membership for is enclosed in this newsletter and is also available on our website www.spiwindsurfing.com. For the monthly pass it will be necessary to fill out the form at one of the local shops. The liability release form is also included; this MUST be signed and turned in. The owners of the North Flats property are leasing the use of their property to the members of SPI Windsurfing and Kiteboarding Association with the requirement that all members of this organization submit a signed release form. The new stickers should be placed in the upper corner of the passenger side of your windshield. By displaying your membership sticker it shows that we are in accordance to the property owner’s requirement. We’ll need some self policing, so we ask your assistance in assuring everyone’s car at the Flats has either the sticker or mirror tag on display. WARNING: Vehicles without current SPIWS sticker or tag will be towed at owner’s expense! Access requirements; 1) Close the gate when entering and leaving and if you are the last one out at the end of the day be sure to lock the gate. 2) Help keep our sailing area litter free – Pack Your Trash Out. 3) If you bring your pet they must be on a leash, and pick up after your pet. 4) Be responsible and have fun! If you have any questions about your registration or the release form email Herman at sbsso@sbcglobal.net and be sure to put SPI Windsurfing in the subject field.

Winter 06 – 07
South Padre Island’s winter has been colder and less windy than normal and the sun has not been showing its face – which makes us cranky!! Some of the die hard sailors have been out catching what wind we’ve had, braving the cold and rain. They have happy smiles on their faces for getting a good wind fix. The rest of us are praying for sun and wind. The weather pattern is starting to change and we are ready for it.
The last couple of months there has been "activity" going on in the Laguna Madre. Air boats have been making their presence known with their obnoxious noise pollution, and to make matters worse they are setting many, many pole markers in the bay. They are here doing seismic testing for oil and gas deposits, with permission of the Texas General Land Office. They are supposed to finish the testing in April. We hope this is true and that the many poles will be removed, as they are a hazard. So, do be aware when sailing and keep an eye open for the (bamboo) poles.
This winter while we miss our Colorado friends, Jibber took at trip up to Winter Park. He enjoyed some fine skiing. Did you see him??
Nest time at the Flats enjoy the new gates when you are coming and going!!
